Kids Ministry
Kid's Ministry
First Baptist Sparta Kid’s Ministry exists to teach kids the fundamentals of the faith and partner with parents to disciple their children.
-
- Kingdom Kids: Kids K-5th grade walk through the New City Catechism on Wednesday nights from 6-7pm. Our kids are learning big theology in a simple and engaging way!
- Sunday School: We have two classes for kids. The first class is for K-2nd grade kids. The second class is for 3rd-5th grade kids. Our Sunday School classes walk through the important stories of the Bible and how they point to Christ.
Student Ministry
Student Ministry
First Baptist Student Ministry exists to equip students with the gospel for the sake of living on mission for Jesus.
Ways to get involved:
-
- Growth Groups: On Wednesdays from 6-7 we have growth groups for our students 6th-12th grade. We offer three different growth groups: Middle School Boys Group (6th-8th grade), Middle School Girls Group (6th-8th grade), and a high school growth group that is co-ed (9th-12th grade). This is a student-led, discussion based format where students walk through the Bible making observations, asking questions, and making practical applications.
- Sunday School: On Sunday mornings from 8:45-9:45 our 6th-12th grade students meet for Sunday school walking through a mixture of New Testament, Old Testament, and Topical studies.
- Student Hangouts: Once a quarter, we take our students to do a fun activity together to build relationships, connect with new students, and provide a safe environment to invite new friends. Some of our past events have included TopGolf, escape rooms, bowling, trampoline park, and more. Look at the Events page for upcoming events in the student ministry.
College Ministry
How to get involved:
- Growth Groups: We also offer a college & career growth group that meets on Sunday Mornings from 8:45-9:45am at The Gathering Place Coffee shop. The purpose of our growth groups is to build relationships with other believers while studying Scripture together.
Adult Ministry
Adult Ministry
Part of our mission statement is that we exist to glorify God by laboring together for the growth of all believers. At FBCS, we offer different outlets of discipleship for adults. Whether Sunday School classes, Growth groups, men’s ministry, or women’s ministry, there is a place for you to get plugged in and build gospel-centered relationships with other believers.
How to get involved:
- Sunday School: We offer 5 different adult Sunday School classes at FBCS. These classes meet from 8:45-9:45am. The purpose of our SS classes is to provide an environment for adult believers to grow in their faith and do life alongside other believers.
- Growth Groups: We also offer 3 growth groups that meet on Tuesday nights in homes throughout the community. The purpose of our growth groups is to build relationships with other believers while studying Scripture together.
- Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting: On Wednesday nights, Pastor Matt walks through Old Testament, New Testament, and Topical series during the Bible study hour from 6-7. Following the Bible Study, there is a time of prayer for needs in the church and community. There are also opportunities for kids and youth on Wednesday nights.
- Women’s Ministry: Our women’s ministry here at FBCS seeks to plug women in with other women who will encourage, equip, and exhort one another (Titus 2). There are monthly fellowships where women get together to build relationships and serve the community/church in various ways. There is also a Women’s Bible Study that meets on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-11:30am.
- Men’s Ministry: The men of FBCS partner together for various ways to serve. Some of the ways our men’s ministry serves is through building wheelchair ramps for people in the community. They also work with the local school to provide a few meals for the football team before games in hopes of building relationships with the players. There is also Men’s Bible Study that meets on Tuesday nights at 7:00.

Music Ministry
At FBCS, one of our main focuses is to glorify God and one of the ways we do that is through music. There are multiple ways in which you can get plugged into the music ministry here at FBCS. The three main areas of music ministry are the choir, playing an instrument, and the annual Singing Christmas Tree. For information on getting plugged into the music ministry, email the music director.

Local Ministry/Missions

Local Ministry/Missions
At FBCS, we believe going with the gospel locally and globally are vital to the mission of the church. We offer multiple opportunities for local missions:
-
- Prayer Walks: FBCS has recently started organizing prayer walks where groups of members walk throughout the community praying for local government, local business, and local churches.
- Pregnancy Care Center: FBCS partners with the local pregnancy care center through financial gifts and volunteers from our church helping with needs at the center.
- Food Closet: FBCS also partners with the local food closet by giving financial gifts and our membership volunteering at the food closet.
- Ministerium: FBCS is also a part of the local ministerium, made up of churches in the county, who partner together to meet needs in the community.
- Church Partners: FBCS is a firm believer in partnering with like-minded churches and seeking to strengthen other churches. FBCS does this by providing equips open to the community that provide solid theological teaching on various aspects in life, the church, and the world. We aim to do this by coming alongside struggling churches to help them evaluate what’s going wrong, providing counsel to move forward, and providing the people to help make it happen.
- Sending: One of the passions of FBCS is seeing Kingdom growth locally. That happens through a process called multiplication and sending. While on the small scale it looks like personal evangelism and replicating growth groups in the local church, on the large scale, it looks like revitalizing unhealthy churches and planting new churches. The prayer of FBCS is that people would be raised up and sent out for the sake of growing the Kingdom locally and regionally.
Global Ministry/Missions

Global Ministry/Missions
At FBCS, we believe going with the gospel locally and globally is vital to the mission of the church. We offer multiple opportunities for global missions:
- Missions Committee: The Missions Committee exists to establish and maintain partnerships with Missionaries and Church Planters that create opportunities for FBC Sparta to fulfill the Great Commission through praying, giving, going, and sending.
- Praying: The missions committee currently meets monthly to pray for the partners at FBCS. There is also a missions prayer update in the weekly email that goes out each week to the church to encourage membership to pray for our missions partners. Prayer for partners also regularly happens in the growth groups at FBCS and during the weekly pastoral prayer during the Sunday morning worship service.
- Giving: As a church affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, dollars given through the Cooperative Program, the Lottie Moon Missions Offering, and the Annie Armstrong Missions Offering, all go towards funding missionaries sent through the International Mission Board (IMB) and the North American Mission Board (NAMB). The regular giving to the church budget at FBCS also supports a few of our partners not associated with the IMB and NAMB.
- Going: When requested by our Missions Partners, FBCS sends short-term teams to join in their work of evangelism and church planting. We currently maintain cross-cultural partnerships in New York City, Europe, and Asia.
- Sending: We aim to equip and send those from our own congregation who express God’s call to mid-term or long-term service on the missions field.
Current Sermon Series
Genesis: In the Beginning
This series explores the opening chapters of Scripture, showing how the triune God created the universe out of nothing and ordered it with intentional design. Each message highlights God as the foundation of all creation and invites us to consider: if He holds the cosmos together, is He also the foundation of your life?
