John McCray

Rev. John F. McCray has been our pastor since April 13, 2003. He and his wife, Sandy have two sons who are married. Joel and Beckah have two boys, Luke and Asher, and one more son on the way. Chad and Shelley’s children have paws. John was saved at an early age of four and first felt the call to ministry in the ninth grade. In 1976 he received a B.A. degree in Biblical Education from Columbia Bible College (now CIU). He continued studies at Piedmont Community College, Averett College (now University), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Pastor’s School at Campbell University, and other SBC led training. He has been involved in church and camp ministries in Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia, and North Carolina. Locally, John has been involved in the Alleghany County Ministerium in the formation of the Food Closet, Solid Rock Building ministry, and is currently serving on the finance committee. In 2008, Pastor John introduced the community to the ministry of Operation Inasmuch and is currently serving as the Region Seven Director for Operation Inasmuch in North Carolina. On April 22, 2012 the Alleghany Historical Society presented John with a certificate, deeming him an Ambassador of Alleghany Heritage & Culture.
